A Perfect Smile With No Metal Brackets

Summer is officially over, and that means it’s time to go back to school. During your middle school and high school years, this is typically the time that you’ll notice a lot of your friends and classmates getting braces. While the shiny metal brackets may not look the best, they still help you get a perfect and healthy smile that will last for a lifetime. But what if there was a way that you could have straight teeth without the need for those metal brackets of traditional braces? What if you were hanging out with your friends at school and none of them knew you were getting your teeth straightened?  The Lindsey Orthodontics team is happy to say that there is a way, and it’s called Invisalign Teen!

Is Invisalign Teen Really “Invisible”?

Invisalign replaces the metal brackets and wires of braces with sets of durable, plastic aligners that fit perfectly over your teeth. The plastic is completely clear, so once you put them on your teeth, no one will be able to notice. However, the aligners can become slightly stained if you don’t take care of them, so make sure that you keep them clean so they stay clear!

Do I Need To Wear Invisalign Teen At School?

Even though they are removable, the only way that you’ll get straighter teeth is by wearing the aligners. Invisalign Teen should be on your teeth at all times except for when you’re eating, so wearing them while you’re at school is definitely necessary, but you can take them out for lunch! After lunch you need to make sure that you brush your teeth and clean your aligners which we’ll go into more detail a little later. Also, Invisalign Teen comes with a “compliance indicator” on the aligners, which is a little blue dot that fades as you wear it.  That means your parents and orthodontist will be able to see if you’ve been wearing it or not!

How Do I Get Invisalign Teen?

You get Invisalign Teen from your orthodontist, so if you want to get Invisalign Teen and start on the path to a straight smile just like your friends and classmates, just tell you parents and get them to schedule an appointment with us at Lindsey Orthodontics. Invisalign Teen isn’t right for everyone, so we’ll have to see if you’re a candidate first during your appointment.

How To Care For Invisalign Aligners When In School

Taking proper care of your Invisalign Teen aligners is extremely important, from keeping them looking clean and clear to making sure you don’t lose the aligners when you take them out. Ask your orthodontist about getting a case for your aligners, and they should give you one. Whenever you take out your aligners at school for lunch, put them in the case and put it somewhere safe. Put your name on the case as well, just in case you accidentally drop it and someone else finds it.

As for cleaning Invisalign Teen, every time you eat, there are going to be food particles left on your teeth. If you put your aligners back in without brushing, it could cause very rapid tooth decay, and a new smile with a ton of cavities is the last thing that you want. Every time you eat, brush your teeth right after and give your aligners a gentle brushing as well, to ensure that all the food particles are cleared away. Just throw your toothbrush and some toothpaste in your backpack to bring with you!

Have Your New Smile Before You Know It!

How long you need to wear Invisalign varies from person to person, but it’s all worth it once you finally have that brand new, perfect smile that you can show off at school. You’ll be able to smile big for your yearbook pictures, school dance photos, or any other occasion!
