Mashed Sweet Potatoes: Braces-Friendly Thanksgiving Recipe
Posted on 11/08/2017

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we know many of our patients are looking forward to some well-deserved time spent relaxing and reconnecting with family. For those wearing braces, however, Thanksgiving presents a new set of challenges – how can you indulge in the holiday feast without hurting your braces? As your orthodontist in Griffin and Locust Grove, we at Lindsey Orthodontics want to make navigating the holidays with braces easier – and this mashed sweet potatoes recipe is the perfect holiday treat for braces-wearers

Braces-Friendly Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a Thanksgiving staple, and this recipe makes them a delicious treat that poses no threat to braces. Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients

  • 6 sweet potatoes, skinned and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup (real)

Directions

Thankfully, this recipe is as easy as it is delicious. First, bring a large pot of salted water to boil, with ample water to cover the sweet potatoes. Once boiling, add in your potatoes and let them cook 20-30 minutes or until they're tender.
Once the potatoes are nice and soft, drain the pot and transfer them to a mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer set to low, blend the potatoes and slowly add in milk as you do it. Continue blending and adding milk until you get the perfect texture – soft, but not soupy. Finally, add the butter and maple syrup to taste and serve warm.
