Orthodontist Approved Holiday Treats

At Lindsey Orthodontics, our mission is to help patients throughout Locust Grove, Griffin, and the surrounding areas achieve beautiful, healthy new smiles no matter where they are in life. That's why we're proud to offer a wide range of orthodontic treatments, including time-tested options like traditional metal braces as well as exciting alternatives like Invisalign clear aligners. We strive to make treatment as convenient as possible for patients, but there are some adjustments you'll have to make. And if you're celebrating the holidays with braces this year, one of the biggest is your diet.

Holiday Treats That Are OK for Braces

While you're wearing braces, you'll need to avoid any foods that are hard, crunchy, sticky, gooey, or packed with sugar. That's because hard and sticky foods both pose a risk of damaging brackets and wires, while sugary foods can significantly contribute to dental decay during orthodontic treatment. Unfortunately, that means many favorite holiday foods are off-limits: candy canes, pecan pie, and gingerbread cookies are just a few of the holiday treats you'll need to abstain from. But not everything poses a threat to braces, so here are a few holiday treats that are still perfectly fine to indulge in during orthodontic treatment:

  • Soft sugar cookies
  • Soft brownies without nuts
  • Pudding
  • Cheesecake
  • Ice Cream
  • Baked apples
  • Soft milk chocolate
  • Eggnog

This list isn't all-inclusive and is intended more as a guide than anything else, so you should still use your own common sense when deciding what you can and cannot eat with braces. But as always, if you still have questions, we're here to help. Contact us today to learn more about navigating the holiday season with braces or to schedule your next check-up appointment at our office. We can't wait to hear from you, and we wish you a very braces-friendly holiday season!
