How the iTero Digital Scanner Makes Getting Invisalign Easy

Lindsey Orthodontics has locations for Griffin, GA Invisalign and Locust Grove, GA Invisalign. At both locations, you will find that our orthodontists utilize an amazing technologically advanced orthodontic machine known as the iTero digital scanner. This machine can make getting Invisalign even easier than ever before.

What Is the iTero Digital Scanner?

This machine consists of software, a computer screen, and an attached oral wand. The software is set up to take a scan of a patient's mouth. The wand is covered with a hygienic clear plastic sheath. Then the wand is inserted into the patient's mouth at all angles to scan and provide a full digital image of the patient's teeth and oral structures.

The scan is uploaded to the patient's account for future reference and for use in restorative or orthodontic dentistry. When it's used in orthodontics offices, it maximizes the perfection of the liners and trays used to straighten your teeth.

Invisalign via iTero Scans

Once your orthodontist has the scans created by the iTero digital scanner, the images can be sent to a 3D printer to create liners and trays. The orthodontist tells the 3D printer to make an exact copy (e.g., just the teeth and not teeth and gums). Then the orthodontist might make adjustments for the first set of Invisalign liners. The result is perfection with no flaws and no mistakes.

Much Faster Than Outdated Methods

Previously, a camera had to take images of a person's mouth with lips parted and stretched outward to reveal back and front teeth. Open mouth shots were taken with the use of a mirror inside the mouth. Combined with X-rays of a patient's mouth, a dental lab created the Invisalign liners and trays. They didn't always come out fitting properly, which could make treatment complicated for the patients.

Now iTero provides a complete digitized scan with no guesswork and perfect imaging. As a result, the images can be used with 3D printing equipment to make liners and trays. Your Invisalign braces fit more accurately and more comfortably as a result of this digital scanner.

Additionally, because the Invisalign products can be quickly printed by 3D printers, you can get your Invisalign braces within a day or two instead of several days to a week or more. Orthodontists are able to make replacement products and treatment products in their respective stages of the treatment plan with little to no wait.

The iTero Digital Scanner Helps With Other Dental Products

Imagine getting a crown that perfectly mimics the one you already had naturally in your mouth. How about getting dental implants that fit your mouth perfectly without retooling the false teeth to fit? This digital scanner changes the way orthodontics operates.
