Adolescent Treatment

Adolescent orthodontic care.
For kids, having a perfect smile can be life-changing. Not only does straighter teeth make it easier to avoid health issues like tooth decay or gum disease, it also gives them a big boost in self-confidence. In fact, a healthier smile can reduce their risk of developing other health issues like heart disease or infection later on. If you want to give your kids the gift of a brighter, healthier future full of radiant smiles, get them the quality orthodontic treatment they need so they can have the smile they deserve. But where can you find that quality care? Right here at Lindsey Orthodontics in Griffin and Locust Grove, GA.

The adolescent orthodontic treatment that we offer at our practice is designed just for teens who are starting to develop the smile that they will have for the rest of their life. Using the most advanced orthodontic treatment technology to create a personalized treatment plan, we make sure their teeth are as perfect as can be, so they can enjoy the benefits of a healthy smile as they venture forward toward adulthood.

Why Is Adolescent Orthodontics Necessary?

While we’re young, we are in a rapid state of growth. By the time kids hit the age of 11 or 13, all of those baby teeth that they started with are gone, and their adult teeth that will make up their permanent smile start to come in. The most effective and efficient way to make sure that smile is perfect is to take advantage of the natural, rapid growth rate during those adolescent years. That’s why adolescent orthodontic care is important. If orthodontic problems are left untreated until adulthood, they can often become worse, and will also take much longer to treat.

In addition to having a faster and more comfortable orthodontic experience as a teen, there’s also a social element to getting treatment at this age. Since teens often get their braces at the same age, all of their friends at school will typically have braces simultaneously or at least around the same time. Many of our teenage patients at both our Griffin and Locust Grove, GA offices end up seeing their classmates in our office when they come in for their appointments. Not only is it an experience that teens can share with their friends, it’s basically a rite of passage for that stage in their life.

The Treatment Process

For every teen, the treatment plan that we create is going to be completely unique to their needs, but will always result in a perfect smile. However, every treatment does start with the first visit, during which we will typically take some pictures and x-rays of your teeth, allowing Dr. Lindsey and our team to start creating the roadmap to your perfect smile. From there, we create your treatment plan, choosing from a variety of orthodontic appliances to find the best fit for you. The types of appliances that we offer for adolescent treatment include:

  • Metal Braces - made from durable stainless steel, these braces are both a classic and reliable option for creating a perfect smile. Metal braces are also smaller and more comfortable than ever, while still being one of the most affordable treatments out there.
  • Clear Braces - these braces have brackets made from a clear ceramic or composite. While not as durable as their metal counterparts, the clear material blends in with the natural color of the teeth to create a more subtle appearance=
  • Clear Aligners - “Invisalign Teen” - these ditch the brackets and wires, and instead, use sets of aligners made from a translucent plastic that make them practically invisible when worn. They are removable, making eating and keeping your teeth clean a breeze. For teens, they even have special compliance indicators built into the aligners, allowing parents and Dr. Lindsey to track the progress of treatment and make sure that the aligners are being worn.

How Long Will I Wear Them?

While we would love to tell you exactly how long your orthodontic treatment will last, there’s no way to know for sure until we get you started with your braces or aligners. Since every smile is different, the treatment time will be different depending on how much, and how far the teeth or jaw need to move. The typical length for orthodontic care can range anywhere between 6 and 30 months. After you complete your treatment and have your straighter smile, you will need to wear a retainer to make sure your teeth don’t shift back to before you had braces.
