You value your smile, so it’s natural to want to find options to improve upon it. If you have crooked or crowded teeth, a good alternative to traditional metallic braces is a set of ceramic braces. When fitted with ceramic braces, it’s important to avoid eating certain types of foods.

What Are Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces are an option for straightening your teeth that differ from traditional metal braces. They are made of ceramic material and can be clear or tooth-colored, making them almost unnoticeable. If you have considered ceramic braces, they’re just as effective as regular metal braces but allow you to smile with more confidence due to being nearly hidden.

What Foods Should You Avoid?

After having ceramic braces put on your teeth, there are certain foods you should avoid. Just like with traditional metallic braces, you have to be wary of anything too sticky like caramel and gummy candies, which can stick to your braces. Anything hard and crunchy should also be avoided such as pretzels, raw vegetables, nuts, chips, or popcorn. These foods can also get stuck in your braces and make it more difficult to clean them and your teeth. You don’t have to completely avoid ice, but make sure to limit it to cooling your drinks; don’t chew ice cubes as it could lead to damage to your braces.

Other foods to avoid while wearing ceramic braces include berries, beets, tomato sauce, soy sauce, mustard and anything that has the ability to stain. Cola, coffee, and black tea should also be cut out of your diet until you’re ready to have your braces removed. Foods too high in sugar can also lead to an overabundance of plaque, which can lead to tooth decay.

What Are the Benefits of Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces can provide you with numerous benefits. One is that you are able to have your teeth straightened or your bite problem corrected with most people not even noticing that you’re using braces. Unlike those made from metal, ceramic braces are virtually invisible.
