Many employers offer health spending accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) for their workers. Both help you set aside money to cover medical and healthcare expenses. You only have until the end of the year to use them so it’s important to remember that it’s there throughout the year should you need to use these funds.. Find out how you can use these accounts to cover any orthodontic needs you or your family have.

FSA Basics

Keep in mind that an FSA and HSA are different. With an FSA, both you and your employer have the right to add funds to your account. You decide at the beginning of the year how much money you want to add to it. Even if you need the funds before you add the full amount, your FSA will still pay the total amount.

HSA vs FSA

You can sign up for an HSA as long as you are not a Medicare user and you are not a dependent. These plans allow you to add more funds and save on your taxes. The money you add to your account is tax-exempt. You can deposit more than $3,600 every year into an HSA as an individual or $7,300 for an account that also covers your family. An FSA has a maximum limit of $2,850 per year. Both accounts require you to use any funds you added by the end of the year or lose them.

Use Your Account with a Locust Grove GA Orthodontist

Each year, as the end of the year looms, consider using your account to help pay for any orthodontic needs you or your family members may have. As long as your insurance does not cover the care you need, you can use your plan. Both FSA and HSA accounts cover treatments that your insurance only partially covers.
Now is a good time to look at teen, adolescent and adult treatments such as metal braces and Invisalign aligners to see what your FSA or HSA may cover to help you out with a portion of the cost or the total amount.
